Great Britain have today announced their team for the upcoming “World Para Ice Hockey, Women’s World Challenge” to be held in Green Bay, USA.

Following last years inaugural tournament, Great Britain will face USA, Canada, Team Europe and Team Asia in the 5-team tournament.

The tournament – which is being held at the Cornerstone Community Centre (Home of the NCAA’s St Norbert Green Knights) – takes place from 31 August – 3 September.

The team see’s each of the club teams within the British League represented, with athletes from England, Wales and Scotland making the final cut.

Head Coach, Ian Offers, said “We feel that we have a team that this year will be pushing to bring home a medal position from the tournament.”

“Last year, the team was new and had only existed for 10 months so the tournament was a big learning experience for the players. This year the players have been playing in the British League and all have developed a lot as athletes over the last 12 months. We also saw a number of the players represent Great Britain alongside the men at the Pool-C World Championships in Bangkok, where they helped the team win promotion and claim the Gold Medal.”

“It’s great to see the Women’s World Challenge expanding with more players on Team Europe, and Team Asia debuting this year. By next year we are looking forward to some further Nations entering their own team as we push towards a future World Championship and then work towards the Women’s game being included in the Winter Paralympic Games.”
